Article summary

When someone enters Staff Supports for their Staff Action Plan POMS Goals, the system defaults to listing them in alphabetical order. The reason for that has to do with the Sort Order.

Example:

Users can change the display order of those Staff Supports at any time.

All they need to do is...

when adding new Staff Supports or edit existing Staff upports, they need to add in a Sort Order. The Sort Order is used to sort the entries.

NOTE:

Sort Order numbers sort in sequence from small to large.

  • The larger the number the lower the associated entry will be displayed on the list.
  • Whenever the Sort Orders are the same (which is the case if you add a Staff Support and do not make any adjustments to the Sort Order) they will sort alphabetically.

Examples:

  1. If the Sort Order of Staff Support A is 5, the Sort Order of Staff Support B is 10, and the Sort Order of Staff Support C is 8, the Staff Supports will display showing Staff Support A first, then Staff Support C, followed by Staff Support B, because the Sort Orders are all displayed sequentially, from small to large.

  2. If the Sort Order of Staff Support A is 10, the Sort Order of Staff Support B is 10, and the Sort Order of Staff Support C is 10, the Staff Supports will display alphabetically, because their Sort Order is the same.

  3. If the Sort Order of Staff Support A is greater than the Sort Order of Staff Support B and the Sort Order of Staff Support C, the Staff Supports will display with Staff Support A being the last entry in the list, because the Sort Orders are all displayed sequentially, from small to large.

  4. If the Sort Order of Staff Support A is less than the Sort Order of Staff Support B and the Sort Order of Staff Support C, the Staff Supports will display with Staff Support A being the first entry in the list, because the Sort Orders are all displayed sequentially, from small to large.

  5. If the Sort Order for Staff Support B was 8, and the Sort Orders for Staff Supports A and C were 5, then the Staff Supports will display with the Staff Support A and C being sorted alphabetically, followed by Staff Support B, because not only are same Sort Orders sorted alphabetically, but Sort Orders are all displayed sequentially, from small to large, and because Staff Supports A and C have a Sort Order smaller than Staff Support B, they will display first in the list.
