How can I assign a volunteer to an activity that is not tied to a Community Event

This article will describe how you can assign volunteers to activities
which are not tied to Community Events.

The imPowr volunteer menu was created with Community Events in mind. All volunteering opportunities are associated with an event. However, events can be open ended, with no end date, so just create an event "organizational support" and you are good to go.

That being said, you can…

Create a non-event related volunteering position in imPowr

• Access Volunteer Opportunities from the Volunteerism section of the Community menu.

• Click on the ‘+’ to add a new Volunteer Activity.

• Assign a generic name like 'Miscellaneous Volunteer Activities'.
• Select a Volunteering category like Administrative or General (you might have to create these first, if you don’t already have them).

• Enter your staffing needs (Openings) and number of hours per month.

• Save the Entry.

You now have a volunteer opportunity for your organization for which people can be assigned or they can enter a request (via the portal).

To assign someone to this volunteer position:

• Go into Volunteer Summary or Volunteerism page.

• Click Add New.
• Select an Account.

• Select a Volunteer Activity from the General section (non-event related).

• Click Save.

(You can also select this opportunity from the Volunteer Portal.)

NOTE: Click on the name of the Volunteer Opportunity. We see names like Community Event Volunteer Activity: Committee Member or General Volunteer Activity: HR. These names are reflective of the current active Volunteer Categories and Activities. That is why if you see something like “Organization”, but there is no current Volunteer Category listing "Organization", that is because there used to be a volunteer category called Organization - that category no longer exists. (Categories are user configurable).

This will fill the volunteer position.
